UPDATE: Doug Mastriano Walks Out of Interview With Jan. 6 Committee, Refuses to Answer Questions Again. What’s He Hiding?

New York Times: “Mastriano Ended the Interview With the 1/6 Committee in Less Than 15 Minutes, Refusing to Answer Questions and Pledging to Sue the Committee”

Doug Mastriano has been avoiding questions for months — even as he’s sat down for an interview with Gab CEO Andrew Torba — and today he walked out of an interview with the bipartisan Jan. 6 Committee. As the New York Times’ Luke Broadwater reported, Mastriano “ended the interview with the 1/6 committee in less than 15 minutes, refusing to answer questions and pledging to sue the committee.”

This isn’t the first time Mastriano has refused to answer questions. Mastriano still refuses to share the recording he took as insurrectionists “face[d] off” with law enforcement on the steps of the Capitol on Jan. 6, and has been dodging questions from local reporters daily, including on his involvement in the plot to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Mastriano lied about his participation in the Jan. 6 insurrection, with reports repeatedly disproving his claims and detailing the true extent of his participation. In fact, Mastriano paid thousands of dollars to bus Pennsylvanians to the Capitol — and at least five of his supporters have been charged for their role in the insurrection, including one who rode on Mastriano’s chartered buses.

More recently, Mastriano is surrounding himself with leading conspiracy theorists like Jenna Ellis and Rudy Giuliani, and campaigning alongside dangerous extremists involved in the deadly insurrection like the Three Percenters. He has made election conspiracies a centerpiece of his campaign — and wants to appoint a leading figure in the Big Lie movement as Secretary of State, decertify all the state’s voting machines with “the stroke of a pen” if he disagrees with results, and force every PA voter to reregister to vote.

DGA Deputy Communications Director Sam Newton said, “Avoiding questions is central to Doug Mastriano’s campaign strategy – but Pennsylvanians deserve to know what Mastriano is hiding. It’s time for him to come clean: release the Jan. 6 tapes, answer the Jan. 6 Committee’s questions, and stop dodging basic questions.”
