WATCH: Lawler Pushes for Putting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid on the Chopping Block in Shocking Morning Joe Interview
Lawler Says Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid Cuts Need to Be on the Chopping Block as He Pushes for Trump’s Tax Cuts for Billionaires
In a shocking interview this morning, Rep. Mike Lawler endorsed putting programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid on the chopping block. On Morning Joe, Lawler insisted that Republicans needed to put forward cuts to “mandatory spending,” which includes programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid that provide retirement security and health care to millions of New Yorkers.
The interview comes just days after Lawler voted with Donald Trump to give massive tax breaks to billionaires by taking away Medicaid from New York seniors, veterans, and kids and cutting food assistance for New York families. Lawler’s support for cutting Medicaid to deliver tax cuts for the wealthy has drawn sharp criticism from his constituents for months. Now, he is going even further by saying it’s not enough just to cut Medicaid – he thinks Social Security and Medicare should be on the chopping block too as he works to deliver massive tax cuts for the wealthiest.
Watch Lawler’s comments here:
Lawler – who is eyeing a statewide run that would thrust him into a messy and chaotic Republican primary – has a record of siding with Donald Trump over New Yorkers. Just last week, he enthusiastically backed Trump’s tariffs, which are already raising costs for New York workers and businesses.
“Mike Lawler has made crystal clear that he wants to take away Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid from New Yorkers to pay for Donald Trump’s tax cuts for billionaires,” said DGA Senior Communications Advisor Kevin Donohoe.“Going after Social Security and health care for New York seniors to help billionaires isn’t just out of touch – it shows that Lawler is utterly unfit to serve the Empire State.”
