Blakeman and Lawler Embrace Trump’s Tariffs That Will Raise Costs on New Yorkers
After Trump rolled out sweeping tariffs that could cost working families an estimated $5,200 per year, two New York Republicans eyeing potential statewide runs, Rep. Mike Lawler and Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, sunk to new levels of desperation last week as they rushed to embrace Trump’s dangerous tax hikes on working families and small businesses.
Blakeman, in a desperate display of loyalty to Trump, was at the White House for Trump’s tariff rollout, where he got a shout out from the president. Not to be outdone, Lawler took to national media to praise Trump for imposing tariffs that are already hurting New Yorkers.
It’s the latest sign that Blakeman and Lawler are more interested in courting Donald Trump than doing what is best for New York – and a preview of what could end up being a chaotic and messy Republican gubernatorial primary between the two men.
“It’s clear that Blakeman and Lawler are already in a desperate competition for Trump’s praise, leaving New Yorkers and their top concerns behind,” said DGA Campaign Communications Advisor Emma O’Brien. “Blakeman and Lawler will do or say anything to win Trump’s support – even embracing a disastrous, job-killing agenda that will raise costs on New York’s working families and small businesses.”
