WATCH: James Craig Agrees With Garrett Soldano’s Extreme Stance on Abortion Ban With No Exemptions for Rape

In an interview with FOX 17 yesterday, James Craig made it clear that he agrees with Garrett Soldano’s extreme plan to ban abortions in Michigan with no exemptions for rape. Watch Craig’s comments here. 

Asked directly about Soldano’s comments that faced national blowback, Craig said, “I’m pro-life. And certainly if — God forbid — a woman is a victim of rape, we have resources to take care of that child if that woman decides that she’s incapable and unwilling to do so.”

Craig previously made clear that if Roe v. Wade is overturned, he supports Michigan’s 1931 law that criminalizes abortion for both patients and providers.

Craig and Soldano aren’t alone in their far-right views on a woman’s right to choose. Tudor Dixon supports a complete ban on abortion with no exceptions for rape, incest, or the mother’s life, and Kevin Rinke also said he would enforce Michigan’s extreme 1931 abortion ban.

“James Craig is doubling down on Garrett Soldano’s draconian anti-choice comments because this field of extreme Republican candidates for governor in Michigan have the same goal — completely ban abortion in Michigan,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Sam Newton. “As the GOP primary candidates push dangerous and out-of-touch restrictions on reproductive health care, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is the last line of defense for abortion rights.”
