The New Jersey Independent: “Jack Ciattarelli doubles down on abortion misinformation”
As the National Review highlights that Jack Ciattarelli can’t “identify a single issue on which he disagrees with the president,” including “defunding Planned Parenthood,” new reporting from The New Jersey Independent details how this extends to Ciattarelli’s position on reproductive care. Just like Trump, Ciattarelli supports an abortion ban and is grossly out of step with the majority of New Jersey families, defending his desire to defund Planned Parenthood through Republicans’ disastrous budget bill.
Earlier this month, Ciattarelli campaigned with the head of the New Jersey Family Policy Center, an extreme, far right anti-abortion group that “argued that [he would] be the strongest choice to support (…) anti-abortion policy in the state.” As The New Jersey Independent reports, in a recent interview Ciattarelli asked, “why does all the money go to Planned Parenthood?” while pushing for “crisis pregnancy centers” to get funding in order to spread disinformation that prevents women from getting the care they need.
What’s worse, Ciattarelli has been clear that he believes Trump’s “greatest legacy” is “his transformation of the federal bench” with the conservatives who overturned Roe v. Wade, something that Ciattarelli himself plans to replicate in New Jersey.
“Jack Ciattarelli is only interested in one thing: doing the bidding of Donald Trump, including when it comes to ripping away reproductive health care from women and families across New Jersey,” said DGA spokesperson Izzi Levy. “Ciattarelli has demonstrated time and time again that he is willing to sell out New Jerseyans to curry favor with Washington Republicans, and if he becomes governor, he will go all in on destroying women’s access to health care. New Jersey families will not let him get the chance.”
