Tampa Bay Times: “DeSantis Stays Quiet On Abortion’s Future in Florida”
DeSantis Still Won’t Rule Out Even More Extreme Restrictions on Reproductive Freedoms
New reporting from the Tampa Bay Times is exposing Ron DeSantis as he “stays quiet on abortion’s future in Florida,” following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
The Tampa Bay Times reports how, “following the Supreme Court ruling, “DeSantis issued a statement praising the decision and promised that Florida ‘will work to expand pro-life protections,’ without offering specifics.”
However, DeSantis has already made it clear he supports extreme and unpopular positions that would undo Floridians’ rights and freedoms. Even before SCOTUS moved to overturn Roe, DeSantis signed into law an extreme ban on abortion, with no exceptions for survivors of rape, incest or human trafficking. His extreme record and refusal to rule out signing more extreme legislation into law shows he can’t be trusted.
The DGA is calling on DeSantis to end his silence and answer the following questions:
- Will DeSantis blaze ahead with a Texas-style abortion ban that makes no exceptions for rape and incest?
- Does DeSantis support even more restrictions, like a ban on contraception?
- Will DeSantis push to fully criminalize abortion and throw doctors and nurses who perform them in jail?
DGA Deputy Communications Director Sam Newton said: “While DeSantis’ silence is inexcusable, his extreme record of restricting abortion access shows he can’t be trusted to uphold Floridians’ essential rights and freedoms. He should stop hiding his radical agenda.”
