Ron DeSantis Signs Dangerous Abortion Ban Without Exemptions for Rape, Incest, or Human Trafficking
Today, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a dangerous bill outlawing abortion after 15 weeks — and the law “does not allow for exemptions in cases where pregnancies were caused by rape, incest or human trafficking,” according to the Associated Press.
DeSantis signed the bill against widespread pushback and despite several Florida lawmakers recalling their own abortions and experiences with sexual assault in tearful speeches.
With the Supreme Court hearing arguments challenging Roe v. Wade, the fight to protect reproductive rights has shifted to the states, and extreme abortion bans have become a litmus test for Republicans across the country.
“Ron DeSantis continues to prove he’ll put any harmful policy in place if he thinks it will benefit him on the national stage,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Sam Newton. “His dangerous abortion ban is the definition of extreme — even refusing to create exemptions for survivors of rape, incest, and human trafficking. DeSantis is waging an all-out war on reproductive rights, and Florida voters will hold him accountable.”.”
