Radical Ron is Wrong for Florida: Ignoring Florida’s Housing Crisis
The DGA is continuing its “Ron if Wrong” series to kick off the general election by highlighting that while Florida’s housing crisis spirals out of control “with no end in sight,” Ron DeSantis is doing next to nothing to help Floridians struggling with skyrocketing rents or to pay homeowner’s insurance.
After receiving a rent hike, one Floridian told the Orlando Sentinel “We are essentially facing financial eviction,” while the CEO of an apartment listing company added: “I wish I could tell you that we’re going to have some moderation in rents. I just don’t see it.” Under DeSantis, “monthly rents are rising faster in Miami, Orlando and Tampa than almost any other area of the country” according to a NPR report. With rising rent and home prices, DeSantis’s Florida is now “the least affordable place to live in the U.S.” and even right-wing extremists are taking note of his failure.
So what is DeSantis doing instead? A Palm Beach Post columnist sums up how DeSantis “wallowed in culture-warrior legislation while the state’s real crisis of affordable housing went unaddressed this legislative session.” .
DeSantis’ divisive agenda is also making Florida’s housing crisis worse. His political revenge scheme against Disney after they spoke out against his “Don’t Say Gay” bill could raise property taxes by as much as 25% – up to $2 billion in total.
Yesterday, the DGA highlighted how Radical Ron is Wrong for Florida by calling him out for signing a ban on abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest.
“Instead of addressing Florida’s housing and homeowners insurance crisis DeSantis is only focused on divisive partisan battles and getting national attention for himself,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Sam Newton. “Ignoring the biggest issues facing Floridians just to advance his selfish agenda is just another way Radical Ron is wrong for Florida.”
