ICYMI: While Candidate Irvin May Praise Trump, Mayor Irvin Called Trump an “Idiot,” “Bigoted Racist”

Latest News

In case you missed it, new texts from 2018 show Illinois GOP gubernatorial candidate Richard Irvin calling Trump an “idiot” and a “bigoted racist,” saying: “I hate Trump too!” in a text conversation with a retired longtime Aurora city employee. This new revelation is bound to hurt Irvin in a crowded primary that’s closer than ever — with a top contender actively vying for Trump’s endorsement.

This comes after months of Irvin dodging questions about his voting record. When he did finally face the press last week, he repeatedly deflected when asked who he voted for in 2016 or 2020.

This news also makes even more ridiculous Irvin’s attacks on Bailey’s voting record, highlighted in a recent mailer with the headline: “Bailey breaks with Trump.” Irvin’s as hypocritical as they come.

Irvin wasted no time trying to rewrite history, saying: “…the Trump Administration delivered positive results for Americans like tax cuts, opportunity zones, and a focus on public safety…”. He knows how bad this looks and tried to paper it over — hoping he can further gaslight Republican voters into believing his revisionist history.

“We’re once again learning that Richard Irvin will say or do anything to score cheap political points,” said DGA Senior Communications Advisor Christina Amestoy. “He’s in this race to win a political game — and there’s no bottom to how far he’ll go.”
