DeSantis Takes Heat for Silence on Extreme Anti-Abortion Agenda

Latest News

Across Florida, Ron DeSantis is taking heat for his refusal to answer tough questions and rule out even more extreme restrictions on reproductive freedoms —from criminalizing medical providers and jailing women to banning contraception and more.

DeSantis has already made clear he supports extreme and unpopular positions that would undo Floridians’ rights and freedoms. Earlier this year, DeSantis signed into law an extreme ban on abortion, with no exceptions for survivors of rape, incest or human trafficking.

“Ron DeSantis is staying silent on abortion becaue he knows his radical agenda to rip away Floridians’ fundamental rights is deeply unpopular,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Sam Newton. “Every day that DeSantis refuses to rule out even more dangerous attacks on the rights of women to make their own private medical decisions, it’s clear he’s too radical for Florida.”

Here are the headlines and news coverage on Ron DeSantis’ continued silence on the future of Floridians’ reproductive rights:

  • Tampa Bay Times: “DeSantis Stays Quiet On Abortion’s Future in Florida”
  • Orlando Sentinel: “Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has been uncharacteristically quiet on the issue.”
  • MSNBC: “Why Ron DeSantis is avoiding talking about abortion”
  • Florida Phoenix: “Neither has the governor spoken in detail about his hopes for a Florida abortion policy beyond the 15-week gestation ban he signed into law recently, even as the U.S. Supreme Court could overturn Roe v. Wade at any time.”
