With Trump Headed to Wisconsin — Will Tim Michels Double Down on the Big Lie?
Donald Trump announced yesterday that he’ll campaign for his endorsed candidate Tim Michels in Wisconsin ahead of the August GOP primary — but how far will Michels go to appease Trump and embrace the Big Lie?
Michels has refused to say Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election, claimed “there was certainly illegal ballots,” and said during one campaign stop that “President Trump probably would be president right now if we had election integrity.”
But Trump threatened Michels last week on Truth Social, saying he would have “no chance” at winning if he doesn’t stay “strong on the Rigged and Stolen Election.”
Michels could be in trouble with Trump since recently, he’s been slammed by his GOP opponents for not being extreme enough. Rebecca Kleefisch has repeatedly attacked Michels’ company’s “liberal positions,” while Tim Ramthun called Michels out in a debate last weekend for not saying he’d try to decertify the 2020 election.
“Tim Michels has already embraced the Big Lie, and now he has nowhere to go but even further to the extreme as Trump dangles his support,” said DGA Senior Communications Advisor Christina Amestoy. “The GOP candidates for Wisconsin governor will say and do whatever it takes to win the nomination, even if that means adopting dangerous far-right stances that will make them unelectable come November.”
