With Early Launch, Yost Tries (and Fails) to Bypass Messy Ohio Gov Race Primary
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost made it official today, launching his campaign for governor – the first to enter what will likely be a crowded and messy primary to the far-right.
Yost’s legacy as Attorney General includes his ongoing efforts to appeal a court decision that struck down Ohio’s extreme and dangerous 6-week abortion ban, ignoring the will of the majority of Ohio voters who passed a constitutional amendment to enshrine reproductive rights into state law. Yost also attacked a 10-year-old survivor of rape in need of an abortion who was forced to cross state lines into Indiana to receive the care she needed, claiming there was “not a whisper” of evidence, and that her story was “more likely…a fabrication.”
“As we speak, Dave Yost is actively continuing to ignore and undermine the will of Ohio voters who overwhelmingly voted to protect reproductive freedom by record margins. Now, he wants to push that same unpopular and toxic agenda from the governor’s office,” said DGA States Press Secretary Emma O’Brien.“Making himself the first candidate to officially enter this crowded, messy, and extreme primary only guarantees that Ohioans will have plenty of time to learn about Yost’s dangerous record and see exactly why he’s wrong for the governor’s office.”
Yost’s announcement comes weeks ahead of schedule, as reports show that he raced to launch his campaign before former failed presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and state treasurer Robert Sprague enter the race.
