Winsome Sears Set to Campaign with Extreme Group That Wants to Ban Abortion Nationwide & Opposes Same-Sex and Interracial Marriage

Tomorrow, Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears will double down on her extreme agenda by campaigning with an extreme group called the Faith and Freedom Coalition that wants to ban abortion nationwide and opposes protecting same-sex and interracial marriage.

This is nothing new for Sears, who was recently exposed for touting endorsements from anti-LGBTQ and anti-abortion extremists. She has her own long record of supporting a near-total abortion ban in Virginia and attacking the rights of LGBTQ Virginians.

“Winsome Sears has made it clear she will not hesitate to rip away freedoms from Virginians at every turn, including abortion rights and same-sex marriage,” said DGA Communications Director Sam Newton. “She will always put her own extreme partisan agenda over what’s right for Virginia.”

Sears has an extreme anti-abortion and anti-LGBTQ record that’s wrong for Virginia:

  • Sears holds extreme positions “to Youngkin’s right” on reproductive rights, supported a near-total abortion ban before most women know they are pregnant, and “noted her personal objection” to Virginia’s proposed constitutional amendment protecting reproductive rights in a “handwritten note.”

  • As Lieutenant Governor presiding over the state Senate, Sears “couldn’t resist” casting the tie-breaking vote against legislation to guarantee the right to access contraception and birth control. The bill was later gutted then vetoed by Gov. Youngkin, leaving the door open to future attacks on Virginians’ access to contraception and birth control.

  • Sears also left a handwritten note on a bill protecting marriage equality, stating that she remains “morally opposed” to protecting this fundamental freedom for all Virginians, and previously wrote an op-ed where she argued that “society has gone immeasurably beyond all standards in accommodating the homosexual community.”
