Winsome Sears Once Again Refuses to Explain Why She’s Backing Trump’s Health Care Cuts for Over 320K Virginians

After defending Donald Trump’s disastrous budget bill that rips health care away from Virginians, Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears is now desperately trying and failing to paper over her support of these disastrous and deeply unpopular cuts.

During a campaign stop in Virginia Beach yesterday, Sears responded to a question about billboards reminding voters about her support for Trump’s Medicaid cuts by refusing to offer any explanation and saying that “they create fear in people.”

This comes as new polling shows that Medicaid cuts are deeply unpopular with Virginians, with 55 percent of voters saying they have “serious concerns” about Sears’ support for Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill.”

Trump’s health care cuts that Sears cheered on, including cuts to Medicaid, will be devastating for Virginia, stripping health coverage away from nearly 323,000 Virginians, threatening rural hospitals, and killing jobs.

“Instead of offering any real explanation, Winsome Sears is once again trying to dismiss how Donald Trump’s budget bill that she backed will rip health care away from over 320,000 Virginians, shut down rural hospitals and kill jobs,” said DGA Communications Director Sam Newton. “Sears’ latest attempt to paper over that just makes clear that she is the one who is scared to come clean to Virginians.”
