Winsome Sears Casts Tie-Breaking Vote Against Protecting Birth Control Access
Democratic Governors Association National Press Secretary Devon Cruz released the following statement after Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears cast the tie-breaking vote against a bill to protect Virginians’ right to access birth control:
“Once again, Winsome Sears is showing Virginians just how committed she is to undermining reproductive freedom, and making it harder for women to get the health care they need. Voting against a bill to protect birth control access isn’t just wildly out of step with the majority of Virginians, it’s a sign of the dangerous agenda that Sears would push as governor. Virginians deserve a governor who will stand up for their fundamental freedoms, not consistently attack them.”
Winsome Sears Has a Long Record of Attacking Reproductive Freedom:
- Sears supports an extreme abortion ban “similar to the law that took effect in Texas” that bans abortion before most women know they are pregnant.
- Sears falsely claimed that after conception, “The baby isn’t even [the mother’s] body, she’s got her own body. The blood running through the veins of the baby don’t belong to her, it’s not her blood.”
