Winsome Earle-Sears Is Stuck Between LaRock and a Hard Place
Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears is struggling to keep her campaign on the rails as former delegate Dave LaRock plans to fully embrace a “grassroots movement” to launch a nasty and chaotic GOP primary challenge for governor.
Over the weekend, WTOP reported that LaRock “wants to force a primary against Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears” due in part to her “defects as a candidate,” saying:
“I was approached by many conservatives from across the state who see the need for, perhaps, a different candidate… I’ve never believed in top-down or hand-picked appointees.”LaRock added that it’s going to be “very difficult for her to unite the base that any candidate would need to be successful in running for this office.”
This comes as Republicans have publicly criticized Sears, including Donald Trump’s former Virginia campaign chair and his 2024 co-campaign manager.
Sears has already gone “full MAGA” – including siding with Donald Trump’s attacks on Virginia’s jobs and economy – but this attempt to save face with Trump’s base has seemingly fallen flat as LaRock ramps up his “Pro-Trump” candidacy.
“Winsome Earle-Sears is stuck between LaRock and a hard place,” said DGA National Press Secretary Devon Cruz. “As LaRock ramps up his challenge against Sears, amid deepening concerns about her candidacy from Virginia Republicans, the chaos is only beginning.”
