White House Won’t Answer If Trump Will Campaign With Gillespie
A Divided GOP Continues to Weaken Gillespie in Virginia
Today, during an off-camera briefing, Deputy White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders refused to say if President Trump would campaign with Republican gubernatorial Ed Gillespie in Virginia.
Earlier in the year, Sean Spicer said Trump would be willing to campaign in the Virginia election, and Gillespie told NBC 4 he was “happy to have” Trump’s help.
Does Trump have cold feet now?
After Gillespie’s disastrous primary showing, Gillespie heads into the general election with a divided Republican party behind him. Trump’s 2016 Virginia campaign chairman, Corey Stewart, said yesterday that Gillespie would have to “fight” to win over his supporters. Regardless of what Trump does, Gillespie has a lot of work ahead of him to unify his party before he can move forward in the campaign.
