While DeWine Stays Silent on His Dangerous Abortion Ban, Nan Whaley Speaks Out in Defense of Ohioans’ Rights
Cincinnati Enquirer: “Amid DeWine’s quiet response, former Dayton Mayor Whaley has been anything but.”
New reporting from the Cincinnati Enquirer exposes how Mike DeWine “isn’t saying much publicly about his longstanding support of abortion restrictions,” even though his “opposition to abortion is one of his most consistent policy positions over decades…”
Even after signing one of the most extreme abortion bans in the nation in 2019. DeWine “hasn’t responded to questions about the impact of his signature on that 2019 law, which is now in effect.” And after a 10-year-old rape survivor from Ohio was forced to leave Ohio to seek reproductive care, DeWine “didn’t address his policy that led her to seek an abortion out of state.”
While DeWine refused to answer for his dangerous abortion bans, Nan Whaley is doing the exact opposite. Nan has stood up for women’s rights at protests following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, where she called out DeWine directly. Whaley also pledged to support a constitutional amendment to protect abortion.
“Mike DeWine knows his extreme anti-abortion views are so out-of-step and have already led to deeply dangerous situations, so he’s scared to answer for them,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Sam Newton. “Ohioans deserve to know where their leaders stand when it’s their reproductive rights on the line. While DeWine stays silent, Nan Whaley is saying loudly and clearly that she’ll be a fierce defender of women’s rights as governor.”
