Whitmer Gets “High Marks” For Convention Speech, Hailed As “Future Of Our Party”

Last night, “that woman from Michigan” Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivered a speech at the Democratic National Convention.

Gov. Whitmer spoke about how Vice President Joe Biden and the Obama Administration worked to save the auto industry in Michigan and criticized the Trump administration for not taking action to help America with the coronavirus.

She encouraged Americans to come together to get through this tough period of time and said, “When we work together — we can accomplish anything.”

See what they’re saying about Gov. Whitmer’s inspiring speech:

Amy Lange, Fox 2 Detroit: “Michigan’s governor getting generally high marks for her appearance during last night’s democratic national convention.”

Sarah Reese Jones, PoliticusUSA: “Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) took apart Trump by pointing out at the Democratic convention that it was Obama and Biden who really saved manufacturing jobs.”

David Dulio, Oakland University professor: Whitmer’s speech was a “blistering” attack on Trump’s COVID-19 response that also focused on auto manufacturing, which is going to be an issue in the fall’s campaign.

Lon Johnson, former chairman of the Michigan Democratic Party: “[Whitmer] represents the future of our party. […] She represents a very important state and a very important method of governing that we’re trying to showcase.”

Kat Stafford, Associated Press: “MI Gov. Gretchen Whitmer mentions 5-year-old Skylar Herbert, who in April became the first child to die in MI of COVID-19. ‘For Skylar, for her parents and in the memory of all those we’ve lost, let us act, let us heal as one nation.’”

Robert Costa, Washington Post: “‘Let us act,’ Governor Whitmer says. ‘Let us heal.’ A message from a key Democrat in the Midwest.”
