What They Are Saying: Gov. Steve Sisolak Launches Largest Affordable Housing Investment in Nevada History
Yesterday, Gov. Steve Sisolak launched the $500M “Home Means Nevada” affordable housing initiative — the largest single affordable housing investment in Nevada history.
The plan, which complements other state and local investments, will lower the cost of housing, help people stay in their homes, help seniors make repairs and accessibility retrofits, and create good-paying construction jobs.
Here’s what local news outlets are saying about Gov. Sisolak’s affordable housing investment:
- KLAS: “It will be the single largest investment in affordable housing in the state’s history.”
- KTNV: “The plan will boost housing construction and home ownership opportunities. It will help seniors retrofit their homes, to lower their costs, improve their property, and stay where they want to be.”
- Las Vegas Review-Journal: “Amid skyrocketing rent and home prices and a relentless supply shortage, advocates are hopeful that an infusion of hundreds of millions of federal relief dollars can finally make a dent in Nevada’s affordable housing crisis.”
- Arielle Edwards with Nonprofit Affordable Housing Developer Nevada HAND: “[The initiative will] move the needle and begin to close the gap between the affordable housing need and the current housing stock.”
“Housing is an immensely complex issue, and a critical priority,” said Gov. Sisolak. “Nevadans are depending on us, and I know that together we can help solve this crisis.”
