“[Ronchetti’s] Goal Would Be to End Abortion in New Mexico”

A new video is exposing New Mexico GOP gubernatorial nominee Mark Ronchetti for lying about his plans to end all abortion in New Mexico. In the video, conservative pastor Steve Smothermon explains that even though Mark Ronchetti has publicly said he supports banning abortions after 15 weeks, his real plan is far more extreme.

According to Smothermon, Ronchetti privately assured him that “his goal would be to end abortion in New Mexico.” Smothermon stated he “had a long talk with him for hours,” during which Ronchetti admitted he couldn’t reveal his true anti-abortion agenda to voters “because we won’t ever get elected.”

Smothermon’s comments show that Ronchetti has apparently been promising conservative elites and his radical allies a far more extreme agenda behind the curtain. It also shows that Ronchetti wants to lie and deceive New Mexicans, just to get elected. It’s clear he can’t be trusted to protect New Mexicans fundamental rights.

“Mark Ronchetti is plotting to completely strip women of their reproductive freedoms, and lying to voters outright about how far he’s willing to go,” said DGA Senior Communications Advisor Christina Amestoy. “Abortion access was already under threat in New Mexico this November. Now, it’s clear that the stakes are much higher — and Mark Ronchetti is dangerous for New Mexicans’ right to make their own reproductive health care decisions.”
