Wisconsin Republicans are pushing Trump’s ‘Big Lie’ for another “fake election audit circus,” and Democratic Gov. Tony Evers is the only thing standing in their way.

Trump and his supporters have lost dozens of lawsuits, including ones that went before judges nominated by Trump. But GOP Speaker Robin Vos is chasing Trump’s pipe dream by spending an undisclosed amount of taxpayer funds to entertain the former president’s baseless claims of election fraud. 

The absurd investigation into Wisconsin election results will be conducted by retired police officers, including a known conspiracy theorist who previously wrote a bogus report about voter fraud discredited by a federal judge.

Yesterday, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler told Rachel Maddow that these “sham investigations” are a ploy to “help Trump steal 2024.” If Republicans manage to build up suspicion and win the governorship, they can pass voter suppression laws and tip the scales in the next presidential election.

“We’re obsessed with re-electing Tony Evers in 2022 so that they can’t carry out this dastardly plot,” said Wikler.

Gov. Evers is the last line of defense for voting rights in Wisconsin. While Vos and the sore losers in the WI GOP waste taxpayer dollars, Gov. Evers is committed to vetoing any anti-democratic bills crossing his desk.

Wikler added that there is some hope to defeat the WI GOP grift campaign. “The important thing is that — if you believe in democracy, if you believe that everyone should have a say in determining self-government in our country — you’ve gotta support the folks that are fighting for democracy.”
