Evergreen Values, a group backed by the Democratic Governors Association, is releasing its first ad in the 2024 Washington governor’s race, titled “Where I Stand” and highlighting former congressman Dave Reichert’s long record of voting against abortion rights.
As the ad notes, during his seven terms in Congress, “Reichert repeatedly voted for a national abortion ban and against exceptions, and time after time, voted to defund Planned Parenthood. Now, Reichert says as governor, he’ll work toward unraveling protections for abortion access.”
Throughout his campaign for governor, Reichert has unsuccessfully tried to mislead Washington voters about his well-documented and extreme opposition to abortion rights. Despite running a “cynical” ad downplaying his voting record, Reichert got caught as recently as this spring pledging to “unravel” abortion access while speaking to an organization that advocates to “END ABORTION once and for all!”
“Dave Reichert’s record in Congress tells Washington voters everything they need to know about where he stands on abortion and how he would govern: banning abortion, defunding Planned Parenthood, and making it harder for women to get the care they need,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Izzi Levy. “Reichert is too extreme for Washington, and no election year deception can change that.”
