VIDEO: Irvin-Bourne Ticket Opposes Abortion Without Exceptions for Rape, Incest

Latest News

Following reports that the U.S. Supreme Court will overturn Roe v. Wade, the DGA is releasing a video highlighting Richard Irvin’s anti-abortion views.

Watch the new video here.

In a February interview with FOX 32, Irvin said he’s “pro-life” but refused to answer whether he’d allow abortion in the case of rape, incest, or danger to the mother’s life, saying, “I think we’re done.” And Irvin’s running mate, Avery Bourne, opposes any exceptions for rape or incest.

The entire crowded GOP gubernatorial field has radical anti-choice records. Darren Bailey wants to outlaw abortion, even in cases of rape and incest, and Jesse Sullivan agrees on a near-total ban on abortion. Gary Rabine is a self-described “big pro-lifer,” and Paul Schimpf voted against the IL state law protecting abortion access if Roe is overturned.

Meanwhile, Gov. JB Pritzker has signed legislation establishing access to abortion as a fundamental right no matter what the Supreme Court rules and required insurance coverage for abortion, contraception, and related medical care.

“Richard Irvin’s anti-choice platform is completely out of touch with Illinois values,” said DGA Senior Communications Advisor Christina Amestoy. “Irvin and the other Republicans running for governor want to turn back the clock on reproductive health care while Gov. JB Pritzker is ensuring that Illinoisans’ right to choose is protected, regardless of the Supreme Court’s ruling.”
