Under Ron DeSantis’ Abortion Ban, “A Child Who Was the Victim of Incest was Denied an Abortion.”

Latest News

After Ron DeSantis signed his dangerous abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest, reports are detailing the heartbreaking stories of young women and girls who were denied necessary reproductive health care in Florida, with Buzzfeed reporting: “A child who was the victim of incest was denied an abortion in Florida since the state instituted its 15-week ban in July.”

According to an OB-GYN in northern Florida, “many of the patients who have been turned away…are young or experiencing intimate partner violence.”

The DeSantis abortion ban also punishes doctors with felonies and up to five years in prison. Florida Politics notes how, for DeSantis, “there is no hiding from his role in shaping this restrictive legislation” that’s stripping health care access from young victims of incest.

“This is the cruel reality of Ron DeSantis’ extreme, anti-woman abortion ban: domestic violence survivors, and survivors of incest being forced to give birth,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Sam Newton. “Ron DeSantis doesn’t care about these women and children, their health and safety, or the impossibly difficult decisions he’s forcing them to make. His only priority is blazing ahead with his dangerous anti-choice agenda and he is too cowardly to answer any questions about it.”

Buzzfeed: “A child who was the victim of incest was denied an abortion in Florida since the state instituted its 15-week ban in July, the local Planned Parenthood chapter told BuzzFeed News.

Jezebel: “As testimony from health professionals across Florida indicates, there’s no such thing as a “generous” abortion ban; forced pregnancy at any stage is violent, as is any case of a pregnant person being denied a wanted abortion.”

Huffpost: “The abortion restrictions are particularly devastating in homes riven by domestic violence, including sexual assault, where children and teens are trapped in abusive situations with no one to help them with pregnancy prevention or abortion.

Florida Politics: As the top Republican in Florida, the buck stops with DeSantis. He signed the state’s latest abortion restriction, which provides exceptions for saving the mother’s life, preventing serious injury or if the fetus has a fatal abnormality, but not in cases of rape or incest. There is no hiding from his role in shaping this restrictive legislation.
