Tucson Hospital Closes After Biggs Voted for Largest Medicaid Cut in History 

A hospital in Tucson will shut down and lay off nearly 100 hardworking Arizonans nearly two months ahead of its originally announced closure date because of the Republican budget law – the largest Medicaid cut in history – that Andy Biggs proudly voted for.

The law kicked 200,000 Arizonans off their health care and jacked up costs for over 400,000 Arizonans. Biggs not only supported this plan every step of the way, but said he was in favor of a “more cut approach,” and has pushed to eliminate Medicaid altogether.

Hospitals across the country are scaling back services and closing as a result of the budget law. Even Republicans have criticized the dangerous Medicaid cuts, with former Republican Gov. Jan Brewer saying, “You can’t kill people to balance your budget. You just can’t do that.”

“Andy Biggs was proud to support the largest Medicaid cut in history, and now Arizonans are paying the price,” said DGA Communications Director Sam Newton. “Biggs created this crisis that is closing hospitals, raising costs, and ripping away care – and now he is running for governor to go even further. He must explain why he backed these devastating health care cuts.”
