Third Time’s The Charm: Rauner Passes the Buck on Budget – Again
Governor Rauner doubles down on his failed budget proposals, blames everyone but himself
Today, Governor Bruce Rauner delivered his vision for the future of Illinois’ state budget. Instead of taking responsibility for overseeing the record 19-month budget impasse Rauner used his speech to offer the same tired ideas and blame everyone but himself.
In what has become the governing principle of his administration, Rauner put his own political agenda before the needs of the state. Rauner’s obstructionism has harmed working families in Illinois every step of the way:
- In last December alone, Illinois lost more jobs than any other state in the country;
- Schools are dangerously close to losing funding for transportation and special education while public universities cut back on faculty and lose students;
- And the state’s credit rating has been downgraded six times since Rauner took office costing taxpayers millions.
“Bruce Rauner has failed the leadership test and Illinois families are paying the price every day,” said DGA Communications Director Jared Leopold. “Illinois’s economy is suffering while Bruce Rauner refuses to do his job. Today’s warmed-over budget speech does nothing to help the millions of Illinoisans that have been hurt by Bruce Rauner’s failure as governor.”
