The Christie Drag: Toxic Record Marks NJ Governor’s Final State of State Address
NJ GOP can’t outrun Christie’s failed record
Today, New Jersey voters need to endure one last State of the State address from GOP Gov. Chris Christie.
But for the Republican candidates vying to replace him, the struggle is just beginning.
As Christie delivers his final State of the State address in Trenton this afternoon, the “Christie Republicans” running for governor in 2017 will get a sharp reminder of the “long odds” they face in the wake of Christie’s disastrous record as governor.
No matter which Republican enters New Jersey’s race for governor, they’ll be inheriting a record from their GOP incumbent that includes:
- A historically bad 18% job approval rating from New Jersey voters;
- 10 credit downgrades, a record mark for a New Jersey governor;
- And an economy that saw more months of job losses than growth in 2016
“New Jersey voters are relieved that Chris Christie’s disastrous two terms in office are almost over,” said DGA Communications Director Jared Leopold. “But with a historically bad approval rating, 10 credit downgrades, and a sluggish New Jersey economy, Christie’s toxic record is sure to saddle any Republican running to replace him. New Jersey voters are ready for a change in Trenton, and we look forward to electing a Democratic governor in November.”
