Swamp Wars: Nasty GOP GOV Primary Off to a Brutal Beginning in Florida
As Rep. Byron Donalds kicks off his campaign in Southwest Florida, the competition for the state’s GOP nomination has already been marked by messy infighting, backroom dealings, and personal attacks as former Rep. Matt Gaetz and Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis consider also jumping into what could become a very crowded and nasty primary.
In fact, recent reporting revealed that both Gov. Ron DeSantis and Casey DeSantis met with the president in an attempt “to sway Trump to not engage in the race beyond his show of support for Donalds.
”DeSantis also took a swipe at Donalds in a press conference, saying that he “just hasn’t been a part of any of the victories that we’ve had…” at the state level in Florida.
“There’s no sunshine in the nightmare of a primary that is emerging for Byron Donalds, who cannot run from the messy infighting and constant attacks that have marked the beginning of this race,” said DGA National Press Secretary Devon Cruz. “Byron Donalds and any other Republican who jumps in this race will be forced to answer for over two decades of failed GOP rule that has left Floridians struggling with higher costs and less freedoms.”
