Sununu Thinks Raises Are Great For Him, Bad For Granite Staters

Sununu gave himself a $20,000 raise

Raising the minimum wage to $12 an hour would directly affect 115,000 New Hampshire workers

Today, New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu vetoed a bill that would have raised the state’s minimum wage.
When he became governor, Sununu took a $20,000 raise. And he made sure his family and cronies benefitted from his job as governor as well. Sununu’s 2017 inaugural fund cut checks of $40,000 for himself, $50,000 for his sister, and nearly $50,000 for one of his family’s closest advisors.
New Hampshire is the only state in New England that hasn’t raised the minimum wage. Granite State businesses are having trouble filling jobs with qualified workers—and some workers are even traveling to neighboring states for minimum wage jobs so they can afford to put food on the table.
Raising the minimum wage to $12 an hour would directly affect 115,000 Granite State workers. But if he isn’t doling out raises to himself or his friends—Sununu isn’t paying the issue any mind.
“The only person Chris Sununu is interested in giving a raise to is himself and his cronies,” said DGA Communications Director David Turner. “Raising the minimum wage would boost New Hampshire’s economy and help 115,000 workers put food on the table for their families. But since it doesn’t benefit himself, raising the minimum wage means nothing for Chris Sununu.”
