Statement from DGA Chair Governor Phil Murphy on the Importance of Direct Cash Assistance to States in Next Federal Stimulus Package
Today, Democratic Governors Association Chair New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy released the following statement on the importance of direct cash assistance to states in next federal stimulus package:
“As we look to the next federal stimulus package, it’s more important than ever that states receive significant direct cash assistance from the federal government as we deal with this unprecedented health and economic crisis.
“If Congress does not give states the direct relief we need to shore up our budgets, we will be going into this fight with one hand tied behind our back. Not only will that be dangerous from a public health perspective, but it will also do untold damage to our economies and cause further delay in reopening them.
“Now is the time for bold action and ambitious solutions. States are leading in this crisis, but we need the federal government’s help to make sure we can keep the fight up in the coming weeks and months, and we need it now.”
