Statement from DGA Chair Governor Peter Shumlin on November Jobs Report
Washington, DC – Governor Peter Shumlin, chair of the Democratic Governors Association, released the following statement today after the U.S. Department of Labor announced that the economy added 146,000 jobs in November and unemployment had been driven down to 7.7 percent:
“Today’s jobs report shows that our economic recovery continues under President Obama’s leadership. Unemployment has been driven down to a four-year low, and Americans created 146,000 jobs last month. The private sector continues to lead the way, creating jobs for 33 months in a row.
“There is still much work to be done, and our recovery is threatened by the failure of Congress to work together on a balanced solution to avert the fiscal cliff. They must act immediately to prevent taxes from going up on middle class Americans, damaging consumer confidence, and slowing our recovery.
“Democratic governors will continue to fight for middle class families as we work to create jobs and expand opportunity.”
