Shots Fired: Gov. Jim Justice’s GOP Opponent Releases New Attack Ads
New Ad Comes As Republicans Privately Beg For Better Leadership
The West Virginia GOP primary is shaping up to be an absolute bloodbath.
GOP Gov. Jim Justice’s primary opponent Woody Thrasher released two more campaign ads this week, along with a string of endorsements from the West Virginians for Manufacturing Jobs Pac and long-time WV Republican official Elgine McArdle.
McArdle snubbed Justice and resigned her post as Ohio County Republican Party chairwoman to support Thrasher. She hinted at more GOP rebellion: “There are a lot of people who are supporting Woody Thrasher, but they are not actively coming out” because they “don’t want to get involved” in the nasty primary.
All of this drama has taken a toll on Justice’s campaign. He desperately spent money on attack ads and ducked debate challenges.
“The West Virginia GOP primary has it all – party infighting, backstabbing, sewage, and a billionaire everyone wants to take down,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Christina Amestoy. “It truly gets uglier each day. Republicans in West Virginia might tear themselves apart trying to oust their own incumbent governor. Fine by us – West Virginians deserve a real leader who doesn’t use public office for his own personal gain.”
