ROUNDUP: Mark Robinson’s Record of Endangering and Ripping off North Carolinians Proves He is Unfit to Be Governor
A series of new reports and a scathing editorial today highlight Mark Robinson’s “disqualif[ying]” record of endangering North Carolina children, squandering tax dollars, and violating the public’s trust — underscoring just how unfit he is to be the next governor of North Carolina.
“Not only does Mark Robinson have an extreme and dangerous agenda that would drag the state backwards, but his record shows what happens when he’s been in charge: children are put in harm’s way and taxpayers get ripped off,” said DGA National Press Secretary Devon Cruz. “Today’s alarming revelations are just more proof that North Carolinians can’t trust Robinson to look out for anybody but himself, and that he is completely unfit to be the next governor of North Carolina.”

WUNC: New Josh Stein ad says Mark Robinson ‘endangered children’ with ‘unsanitary’ child care center
- A new TV ad from Attorney General Josh Stein’s campaign highlights scathing inspection records from a child care center that Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson operated with his wife nearly two decades ago.
- “State documents show it was unsanitary and endangered children,” the narrator says in the ad. “The Robinsons were officially cited for lack of supervision and uncovered electrical outlets around the one-year-olds. Inspectors found falsified staff credentials and no criminal background checks. Documents showed the child care center even operated at times without lights, heat or running water.”
The News & Observer: Amid new disclosures, NC Republicans should withdraw their support of Mark Robinson | Editorial
- As new disclosures are added to the list of problems with his background, Robinson is laying clear claim to being not only unqualified, but as one who should be disqualified to serve as the state’s next governor.
- It is at the point where responsible North Carolina Republicans who truly care about the well-being of their state should concede their party’s error and endorse Robinson’s Democratic opponent, state Attorney General Josh Stein.
- Candidates should also be assessed based upon what they’ve done, or haven’t done. Conservatives can no longer pretend that Robinson passes that latter test. He’s not deserving of office or of their vote.
WRAL: Robinson campaign says investigation into wife’s nonprofit ‘politically motivated at its core’
- Mark Robinson’s gubernatorial campaign disputed findings made by a North Carolina agency that a nonprofit run by his wife must repay the state more than $130,000, calling the findings “politically motivated.”
- “These findings are politically motivated at the core,” Robinson campaign spokesman Mike Lonergan said in a statement on Monday.
- According to DHHS records, Balanced Nutrition filed claims for the same receipt multiple times, or it filed claims for more money than the receipts showed. In one case, records indicate, the group billed more than $10,000 on behalf of a child care center that hadn’t submitted any claims. DHHS says there’s no record of that money ever being paid to the center.
