ROUNDUP: Abigail Spanberger Unveils “Strengthening Virginia Schools Plan” to Set Up Virginia Students for Success

Last week, Abigail Spanberger released her plan to strengthen Virginia’s child care and early childhood education programs, K-12 schools, and higher education institutions in order to prepare all Virginia students for success — whether that’s going into the workforce, an apprenticeship program, the military, or college.

As a parent of three daughters in Virginia public schools, Spanberger knows the importance of investing in education. Her plan includes providing K-12 schools the critical funding they need, boosting workforce training opportunities, promoting academic excellence, and addressing Virginia’s chronic teacher shortage.

• WAVY: Some of Spanberger’s plan includes repairing and modernizing crumbling schools, rejecting the use of public education funds for voucher programs, increasing support for students with disabilities and their parents and making college more accessible and affordable.

• 13 News Now: As a parent and product of the Virginia public school system, Spanberger said she will work tirelessly to uphold academic excellence. In order to do so, she said improvement must start where students begin.

• 19th News: In speeches, statements and multiple interviews with The 19th, Spanberger said she is focused on making life more affordable for all Virginians and stemming what she described as the “chaos” of the Trump administration. She is also focused on countering Republicans’ efforts to “erode faith in our public schools,” and wants to make sure the state is contending with the challenges of teacher shortages, crumbling school buildings and post-pandemic academic recovery.
