Roll The Tape: Cameron Tries to Back Track His Own Extreme Stance on Abortion

DGA responds to Daniel Cameron with Daniel Cameron in his own words

Down in the polls and facing scrutiny, Daniel Cameron is trying to back track his long-held extreme, dangerous, and unpopular stance of banning abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest.

According to the Herald-Leader, in an interview with NewsRadio 840 WHAS, Cameron claimed he would “absolutely” reverse the state’s current near-total abortion ban that does not allow for exceptions for rape or incest, marking a “significant departure from his past position.”

The only problem? Cameron has stated his support for opposing exceptions for rape and incest in numerous public appearances and made defending the state’s trigger law, which has no exceptions for rape or incest even for children as young as 9 years old, a top priority during his time in office. His running mate, state Senator Robby Mills, voted down a provision for rape and incest exceptions.

Hear Cameron in his own words:

  • “Abortion is, for all intents and purposes over here in the Commonwealth. With the exception of life, there is no rape, incest exception.”
  • When asked if he would support any exceptions to Kentucky’s current abortion law, Cameron said, “I support the current law.”

This comes after Daniel Cameron privately pledged to “work to further restrict birth control in Kentucky if elected,” including gutting access for the standard birth control pill for hundreds of thousands of Kentucky women. “No amount of desperate election year reversals will change the fact that Daniel Cameron supports banning abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest, including for a child as young as 9-years-old. Don’t take it from me – listen to Daniel Cameron in his own words,” said DGA States Press Secretary Emma O’Brien.
