Robinson Campaign Attempts Messy Clean Up of Calls for Violence Against Federal Law Enforcement
This week, new reporting from NPR revealed that Mark Robinon encouraged violence against federal law enforcement officers to a crowd in Florida, saying, “it’s time to stand up and fight.” Now that Robinson is coming under national scrutiny for his anti-law enforcement stance, Robinson’s campaign has attempted a messy and clearly misleading clean up to lie about his remarks in a way that does not hold a drop of water.
When asked by CNN to clarify the Lieutenant Governor’s remarks, Robinson’s communications director claimed that by calling for violence against FBI agents, Robinson was actually “encouraging folks to mobilize at the ballot box.” Right.
This is not the first time that Robinson has encouraged violence against government officials. Previously, Robinson bragged about his arsenal of AR-15s that he hoped to use against government officials, fantasizing about filling “the backside of them britches with some lead.”
“Instead of focusing on the issues that North Carolinians care about most, Robinson is traveling across the country to encourage violence against those tasked with keeping our country safe,” said DGA National Press Secretary Devon Cruz. “The Robinson campaign’s attempt to lie about his comments would be laughable if this were not such a serious issue. Robinson clearly can’t be trusted to keep North Carolinians safe, and his anti-law enforcement extremism is dangerous and wrong for North Carolina.”
