Reynolds’ Botched Privatized Medicaid Scheme Costs Iowans Even More
Despite Cuts to Care, Reynolds Gives 7.5% Raise to Prop Up Privatized Medicaid
Following a stream of horrific stories about her botched Medicaid privatization scheme, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced recently that she would be giving a raise to the private companies who run the program.
This 7.5% raise will cost Iowans an additional $103 million, even as people on Medicaid are denied wheelchairs, care is reduced, and patients are even dying.
Over 40,000 Iowans have had reduced or denied services, but Governor Reynolds appears uninterested in holding those responsible accountable; she even fired a member of the Medicaid Advisory Council who raised concerns about how Iowans with disabilities were being treated.
“Yet again, we see Iowans paying the price for Governor Kim Reynolds’ fiscal irresponsibility and mismanagement,” said Democratic Governors Association Press Secretary Melissa Miller. “She’s handing out even more of Iowans’ tax dollars to prop up her failed Medicaid scheme, even as the Iowans who need it most aren’t receiving the care they deserve. Iowans need a governor who will put their health first.”
