REPORT: Ron DeSantis Once Backed a Mandatory Vaccine Registry for Kids, Proving His Anti-Vaxx Crusade is Just Political Posturing
A scathing new report from HuffPost exposes Gov. Ron DeSantis for flip-flopping his stance on vaccines for political benefit.
Two years before he became the face of Florida’s catastrophic crusade against vaccine mandates, DeSantis signed a law requiring children’s vaccinations to be logged into a statewide database.
Now, DeSantis is pushing anti-science and anti-vaccine policies that are prolonging the pandemic, including forcing local counties and businesses to pay fines if they support vaccine requirements. Recently, he’s under fire after nominating a new surgeon general who won’t say if he’s vaccinated after being kicked out of the office of a state senator with cancer for refusing to wear a mask.
This is nothing new for DeSantis — who has put his own politics ahead of Floridians throughout the entire pandemic. Recently, a Miami Herald editorial slammed DeSantis, writing: “We thought things couldn’t get much worse in DeSantis’ handling of the pandemic, but we were wrong — then we were wrong again. Just when you think he’s done enough to undermine our chances of exiting a pandemic that has killed nearly 60,000 Floridians, he has a new trick up his sleeve.”
“Ron DeSantis will say or do anything to promote his own politics — even as it continues to prolong the pandemic and cost the lives of Floridians,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Sam Newton. “DeSantis’ hypocrisy and complete disregard for the health and safety of Floridians won’t be forgotten when he’s up for reelection next year.”
