Report: New Videos Show Far-Right Insurrectionist and Potential PA GOP Gov. Candidate Doug Mastriano Breaching Police Barriers at U.S. Capitol on January 6th

Latest News

After attending the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol that left 5 people dead, a report from HuffPost is revealing new videos that show right-wing extremist and likely Pennsylvania Republican candidate for governor Doug Mastriano steps away from the U.S. Capitol, while mobs clash with police around him. The videos directly contradict claims from Mastriano that he left the Capitol before violence broke out and didn’t break police lines.

Timestamped just minutes before the violent mob broke into Capitol, footage clearly shows Mastriano and his wife walking feet away from the Capitol’s main steps and appears to show him with the crowd that was advancing towards the entrance to the building, moving past barriers put up by police.

Even before the release of these new videos, Mastriano played a direct role in the insurrection and he continues to spread Donald Trump’s lies that fueled the deadly attack. Mastriano’s campaign paid thousands of dollars to bus people to the U.S. Capitol and at a campaign event co-hosted by Rudy Giuliani, Mastriano posed for a picture with a suspect wanted by the FBI for his role in the insurrection.

This comes as the likely GOP primary field for governor, which also includes Lou Barletta and Joe Gale, have been fighting over who is the most loyal to Trump.  Mastriano recently bragged about his recent one-on-one meeting with Trump and according to Mastriano, the pair discussed Trump’s false conspiracy theories about how the election was stolen.

“The evidence continues to mount showing that Doug Mastriano and the rest of the Pennsylvania Republican Party are far-right extremists loyal to Donald Trump and his dangerous agenda,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Sam Newton. “Mastriano continues to spread the same dangerous lies and conspiracy theories that led to the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol and he must be held accountable for the part he played in instigating this deadly attack.”
