Renacci Votes for Trumpcare; Where are Other 3 OH-GOV Candidates?

Rep. Jim Renacci votes for AHCA today; DeWine, Taylor, and Husted won’t say where they stand.

Today U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci a 2018 Ohio gubernatorial candidate, voted for the AHCA in the House Budget Committee. Renacci is the first Republican candidate for governor in Ohio to take a stand on the health care bill – while the three other major candidates continue to duck questions.

As of now, the other candidates have done their best to avoid taking a stance:

  • Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor “doesn’t want to just throw out a sound bite” and would “love to have another opportunity to weigh in on the future.”
  • Secretary of State Jon Husted said he couldn’t “give you a yes or no answer.”
  • And Attorney General Mike DeWine – who sued the federal government over Obamacare – has been completely silent this week on the health care bill.

The vote puts him in direct opposition to current Governor John Kasich, one of Trumpcare’s loudest critics, who sharply objected to the new plan for hurting Ohio’s “ability to treat the drug-addicted, mentally ill and working poor who now have access to a stable source of care.”

“Now that we know Representative Renacci thinks Trumpcare is right for the people of Ohio, it’s time for the other candidates to speak up,” said DGA Communications Director Jared Leopold. “Governor Kasich has been clear that Trumpcare will be a disaster for Ohio. Despite their best efforts, Taylor, Husted, and DeWine can’t hide forever.”
