REMINDER: Kelly Ayotte was the “Sherpa” of SCOTUS’ Extreme Majority

As the Supreme Court hears arguments in FDA v. Alliance For Hippocratic Medicine, the first reproductive rights case since the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022, it’s important to remember that former Senator Kelly Ayotte’s work proudly serving as the “sherpa” for then-Supreme Court nominee and anti-choice extremist Neil Gorsuch helped create the current anti-choice majority.

Ayotte’s work getting Gorsuch confirmed to the Court paved the way for the overturning of Roe, a longtime goal of hers. After getting Gorsuch confirmed to the Court, Ayotte said she was “honored” to work with Judge Gorsuch, attended “every meeting” with him during his confirmation process, and applauded Gorsuch’s eventual confirmation, saying she was “very pleased” with the outcome.

While she was in the U.S. Senate, Ayotte led the charge for a national abortion ban and called for the overturning of Roe v. Wade, voted repeatedly to defund Planned Parenthood, and worked to make it harder and more expensive for women to fill birth control prescriptions. In the wake of the Alabama court decision attacking IVF treatment, Ayotte’s record of voting repeatedly to restrict access to fertility care has also “raise[d] concerns” among Granite State families.

“Kelly Ayotte’s legacy will always be her efforts to overturn Roe v. Wade and install an anti-choice majority on the Supreme Court, paving the way to strip reproductive freedoms from millions of Americans,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Izzi Levy. “Granite Staters know that Kelly Ayotte is an anti-choice extremist who has used her power to attack fundamental freedoms, not protect them, and that their rights would absolutely not be safe if she were elected governor.”
