REMINDER: Kelly Ayotte Led Charge in the Senate for a National Abortion Ban
In an interview with WMUR this weekend, New Hampshire Republican candidate for governor Kelly Ayotte defended the state’s first abortion ban in forty years that calls for civil and criminal penalties for doctors and health care professionals as the “consensus here in New Hampshire.”
Ayotte’s comments put her at odds not only with Granite Staters, who namedabortion rights as their second-most important issue, but also with her own position on abortion — including leading the charge for the Senate to take up a national abortion ban and calling for the overturning of Roe v. Wade more than decade before the Dobbs decision.
Ayotte’s extreme opposition to reproductive freedom doesn’t end there: she has also voted repeatedly to defund Planned Parenthood and attacked a regulation requiring most employers to cover the costs of birth control as “an unprecedented affront to religious liberty.”
“Granite Staters know that Kelly Ayotte has spent her career attacking and undermining reproductive freedom at every turn,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Izzi Levy. “As New Hampshire women speak out against Republican-led efforts to strip away their most fundamental rights, Ayotte is trying to run from her extreme record — but even this latest rebrand is still too toxic for the Live Free or Die State. ”
