Rauner Silent on Disturbing Email That Admin Kept Hidden for Four Months

Rauner Admin Blocked Release of Email Suggesting U.S. Sen Duckworth be Blamed for Quincy Legionnaires’ Outbreak

This week, WBEZ published a disturbing email from Governor Bruce Rauner’s former legislative liaison, Darlene Senger, who suggested shifting blame for the Quincy Legionnaires’ outbreak onto combat veteran and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth. Rauner has not addressed the email yet, and his team would not answer whether the Governor “shared Senger’s supposition” or if she was “confronted by Rauner aides.”
In fact, Rauner’s office has gone to great lengths to keep Senger’s email from the public. WBEZ wrote the experience was a “lesson in the cat-and-mouse manner in which the Rauner administration has used” FOIA law to delay public disclosure.
This particular email took four months to release.
“Bruce Rauner protected his hand-picked Comptroller candidate for months, but he owes it to the public to speak out about her disturbing email,” said DGA Illinois Communications Director Sam Salustro. “Rauner needs to start taking responsibility for his mishandling of the deadly Legionnaires’ outbreak and that starts by speaking out about his administration’s failures.”
