Rauner Headlines Fundraiser Featuring a “Star and Stripes” Painted AR-15 Raffle and His AG Candidate Still Reeling from Anti-LGBT Comment
Rauner Failure of Leadership on Display at Whiteside County GOP Fundraiser
Last night, Governor Bruce Rauner spoke at the Whiteside County Republican Party’s annual fundraising dinner where “a specially customized AR-15 rifle painted with stars and stripes” was raffled off.
Embattled Attorney General candidate Erika Harold also appeared at the event, still reeling from news reports she told Miss Illinois judges she would rather see a foster child put in an abusive home that with same-sex partners. Rauner, who donated $350,000 to and “personally recruited” Harold, has refused to address her disturbing remarks.
“Bruce Rauner’s total failure of leadership was on display in Whiteside County last night,” said DGA Illinois Communications Director Sam Salustro. “Rauner first insulted families victimized by gun violence by attending an event with an assault weapons raffle. On top of that, Rauner still refuses to address the anti-LGBT comment made by his hand-picked Attorney General candidate.”
Rauner’s fundraiser appearance came the same day that he again showed he is unwilling to tackle gun violence in Illinois. WHBF reported “Rauner [said] adding state regulations on top of federal ones is not the right approach to gun violence” at a Quad Cities event. The station quoted Rauner claiming a proposed bill to license gun dealers “won’t really change or improve anything.” Instead, Rauner wanted a “comprehensive, bipartisan solution” and previously called for a “good conversation” about gun violence.
