Polls Show Just How Out of Touch Lee Zeldin is with Top Issues for New Yorkers

Two polls released today from Siena and Emerson demonstrate how out of touch MAGA Republican Lee Zeldin is with New Yorkers. The polls, which have Gov. Hochul with a commanding lead over Zeldin, show New York voters strongly oppose Zeldin’s dangerous agenda to put more guns on streets and restrict the fundamental right to an abortion.

The polls found Gov. Hochul leading Lee Zeldin by 14 points (53%-39%) and 16 points, ( 51% to 35%) respectively. They also found an overwhelming majority of New York voters opposed the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, and a majority of Democrats and Republicans want abortion to remain legal. Voters also support stronger background checks and other commonsense gun safety measures.

Lee Zeldin is on the opposite side of where New Yorkers stand. He applauded the Supreme Court’s decision to overthrow Roe v. Wade and repeatedly voted for abortion bans, and currently supports a bill that would ban abortion without exceptions for rape, incest, or the life of the mother.

Zeldin also said New York “should not have Red Flag laws,” and just voted against the bipartisan Assault Weapons Ban of 2022, which would keep weapons of war off our streets.

DGA Communications Director David Turner said, “New Yorkers want to see their reproductive rights protected and feel safe from gun violence in their communities. Lee Zeldin’s radical mandate to ban abortion and make it easier to carry guns is on the opposite side of where voters stand — it’s no wonder he’s trailing in the polls.”
