Poll: With Cox & Schulz Neck and Neck in Maryland’s MAGA Primary, Loyalty to Trump Remains Top Issue
New Poll from PPP: Cox Leads Schulz 47-24% When GOP Primary Voters Know He’s Endorsed by Trump
As Maryland’s MAGA primary for governor remains a very competitive race that will come down to the wire, a new poll conducted by PPP released today further confirms how competitive this race is — even showing Dan Cox beating Kelly Schulz by a staggering 23% (47-24%) when GOP voters are informed of Trump’s endorsement of Cox and Larry Hogan’s endorsement of Schulz.
While a significant number of voters remain undecided, with both Cox and Schulz still polling below 30%, this ability for Cox to quickly grow based solely on his Trump endorsement solidifies the Maryland Republican primary as a race to the far-right.
Furthermore, the poll found that 50% of the voters who are initially undecided say Cox’s right-wing message is “very convincing,” compared to only 19% for Schulz. Click here to read the full poll from PPP.
While Schulz hides from tough questions by skipping debates and tries to rewrite her record of pushing for a dangerous abortion ban, Cox’s extreme record of organizing buses to the January 6th insurrection, supporting the leader of the far-right Proud Boys, and calling Mike Pence a “traitor” have made him the favorite in the race.
“This poll confirms that extremism is the determining factor in the Maryland MAGA primary and Kelly Schulz’s plan to hide from debates and lie about her record is backfiring,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Sam Newton. “While Dan Cox and Kelly Schulz are busy duking it out for the support of Trump’s base, it’s clear this race will only get nastier and run further to the right.”
