Party Unity? GOP Govs Go 0-5 on Trump

5 GOP Govs bail on public events with Trump

Rothenberg: ‘Republicans are damned if they do and damned if they don’t’

GOP Governors can’t show their face in public with Donald Trump, but they have no problem using him to chase down campaign cash.

Yesterday, MSNBC’s Morning Joe reported that during last week’s campaign stops, Republican governors went 0-5 on public appearances with Trump:

“Over the last week, Donald Trump campaigned in five states that have Republicans in the governor’s mansion. But not a single one appeared with him in public,” reported Morning Joe’s Mika Brzezinski.

But, these GOP governors had no problem cozying up to Trump behind closed doors:

Governor Brian Sandoval of Nevada will not currently commit to voting for Trump, while Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal, and North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory attended private fundraisers with him. Would not be seen in public with him,” Brzezinski continued.

On the GOP’s strategy for dealing with Donald Trump, political analyst Stuart Rothenberg of the Rothenberg & Gonzales Political Report offered his take:

“Republicans are damned if they do and damned if they don’t,” Rothenberg told NBC’s Nightly News.
