One Week Later, DGA Launches New Video Slamming Robinson As Fallout for his Dangerous and Disturbing Record Gets Worse

One week after CNN reporting found an account linked directly to Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson made comments online labeling himself a “black NAZI” and advocating for the return of slavery because he “would certainly buy a few,” the Democratic Governors Association is releasing a new video highlighting just some of the nonstop fallout for Robinson and his campaign.

Here are Five of the Biggest Developments for Robinson since the Bombshell CNN Report:

  • Further Embracing Nazis: Reporting from Washington Post found that an account linked to Robinson praised Hitler’s Mein Kampf, describing it as “a good read” and writing that “It’s very informative and not at all what I thought it would be. It’s a real eye opener.” The Daily Beast also reportedon Robinson’s attempts to learn German and his obsession with miniature Nazi soldier toys.
  • Republican Rejection: Within days, all four of North Carolina’s neighboring GOP governors from South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia, retracted their support of Robinson and confirmed they will no longer be supporting his campaign.
  • Registered on Website for Married People Seeking Affairs and Other Shocking Developments: After the initial story broke, Politico reported that the email address Robinson used was linked to a registered account on a website designed “for married people seeking affairs,” Ashley Madison. Recent reporting found that Mark Robinson also called for Reverend Al Sharpton to be shot.
  • Massive Staff Exodus: Robinson’s top campaign staff resigned en masse, with eight staffers leaving his campaign after the revelations came out. One week later, top staff in Robinson’s official lieutenant governor office announced their plan to resign.
  • Declining Help Disproving the Claims: WRAL reported that Robinson rejected offers to get help from IT services that could help disprove that he was behind the comments. Making Robinson’s denial even more laughable, Politico unveiled data that showed “the person using the ‘Nude Africa’ account that reportedly belonged to Robinson had accessed the porn website from a location not far from Robinson’s home.”

“While Mark Robinson’s comments were extremely disturbing and disgusting, they are only further proof of what we’ve known all along: Mark Robinson is too dangerous and too extreme to be the next governor of North Carolina,” said DGA National Press Secretary Devon Cruz. “Robinson owes the people of North Carolina an explanation, but between these comments and his agenda of signing a total abortion ban, ripping away fundamental freedoms, wrecking public education, and tanking the state’s economy, there’s nothing Robinson can say that would make him fit to be anywhere near the governor’s office.”
