On International Women’s Day, RNC Snubs Highest-Ranking Woman in Ohio

Ohio Republican Party Authorizes RNC To Help Mike DeWine Over Lt. Governor Mary Taylor

Today, on International Women’s Day, Ohio Republicans authorized the RNC to spend money on behalf of Mike DeWine in his primary fight with Lt. Governor Mary Taylor. The gender dynamics of this race are impossible to ignore, and Ohio papers have already pointed them out.
In February, the conservative-leaning Canton Repository editorial board summed it up writing, “Why perpetuate the perception the Republican Party, at the state and national levels, has a “women problem” and misogynistic tendencies?”
Prior to the endorsement vote, Lt. Governor Taylor attacked the “good ol’ boy bullying and backroom deals” that led to the party choosing DeWine before primary voters had a chance to voice their opinion.
Today’s announcement does nothing to change the perception that the Republican Party makes life harder for women.
“The Ohio Republican Party and the RNC used International Women’s Day to put their thumb on the scale for a man,” said Deputy Communications Director David Turner. “It’s no wonder Republicans have a problem with women voters. Regardless of who wins the nomination, Republicans will have to explain to voters why they snubbed the highest-ranking woman elected in Ohio.”
